Matthew Leingang
GSTEM’s Faculty Director and Principal Investigator is Matthew Leingang, a Clinical Associate Professor of Mathematics at the NYU Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. Professor Leingang has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Harvard University. His background is in research math, but his professional career has been devoted to mathematics education. Prior to joining the faculty at Courant, he was appointed as a Preceptor in Mathematics at Harvard University, teaching undergraduates and coordinating the service-level curriculum, and teaching talented high school students during the summer.
Since arriving at NYU in 2008, Professor Leingang has assumed responsibility for organizing the undergraduate program, including 7,000 students per academic year at the service level, and was appointed the Vice Chair for Undergraduate Affairs in 2010. A father of a 16-year old daughter (and a 12-year old son), he is particularly committed to ensuring that talented girls, such as his daughter, receive the encouragement and opportunity to participate and excel in mathematics and the sciences.
