NYU Pharos Sentry @ Courant

Pharos Sentry Print software enables users to print to any of the Courant Multi-Function Devices (MFDs) using the Secure Release method. This innovative approach ensures that your print job is only processed once you authenticate at your chosen MFD utilizing your NYU ID card, your mobile device, or a designated passcode.

Please be advised that information on this page is primarily for Courant members. Specifically, the Pharos Sentry Print software we make available here is only for faculty, researchers, staff, PhD students, and qualifying TAs at Courant. The information on this page is tailored for these individuals. Non-Courant NYU community members are encouraged to contact your local IT department or NYU IT for Pharos access.

Getting Started

  1.  Once you have been given access to the Pharos Sentry Print software, download the appropriate installer from this link - NYU authentication required.
    • Note: the Pharos Sentry Print software is only available to faculty, researchers, staff, PhD students, and qualifying TAs at NYU Courant. Please contact us at mfdsupport@cims.nyu.edu for access to the software.
  2. To install Pharos Sentry Print software on your computer, follow the instruction for: macOS, Windows, and Linux.
  3. Use the Pharos Sentry Print Setup Guide application to complete the initial registration process. You may have to use your workstation's search function to locate this program if it doesn't not launch automatically.
  4. In the Welcome to Pharos Sentry Print window, select "Login to continue" and sign in through NYU's SSO/MFA system using your NetID & password.
    • Note: Only sign in to Pharos Sentry software while using your private workstation or your personal profile when logged in to a Courant managed Windows machine - the software stores credentials in the profile folder of whatever user is signed in at the time of setup, and future authentication is automatic.
  5. Once you've signed in, the Pharos Sentry Print Setup Guide window will show you a unique passcode which will also be emailed to your @nyu.edu account (subject line: Pharos Secure Release Passcode Reference, from sender "no-reply@beacon.pharos.com") -  please be sure to keep it private as you would any password
  6. To use the MFDs and the Secure Release options, select "Pharos Secure Printer" whenever you print. This will send your job to the cloud until you release it to the MFD of your choice. You may release the job at the MFD by tapping your NYU ID card on the attached card reader, using the mobile device method, or entering your personal passcode using the MFD touchscreen.
    • Note: Just tapping the card at one of our MFDs should work to release any job you've sent to the "Pharos Secure Printer," but you may need to enter your passcode the first time you use this method.
    • Note: All documents are set to print automatically after authenticating unless you hit "Cancel" at the MFD touchscreen prompt. You will then be able to select specific documents to print individually.

Pharos Sentry Print

The Pharos Sentry Print application will be accessible via your taskbar (Windows) or menu bar (macOS) after installation. You can use this application to view a list of documents waiting to print, delete print jobs currently in the queue, delegate the secure release of the document to the person of your choice, or reset your passcode.

For further information, please see NYU's Knowledge Base article Registering and printing with Pharos Sentry Print.

Please contact us at mfdsupport@cims.nyu.edu for questions or problems related to the Multi-Function Devices
