Matthew Leingang Wins Golden Dozen Teaching Award

Matthew Leingang, Clinical Professor of Mathematics, has been awarded the Golden Dozen Teaching Award by New York University's College of Arts and Science. The annual award recognizes twelve faculty members for their "outstanding contribution to learning in the classroom." Winners are nominated by CAS students and selected by a faculty committee.

In addition to his mathematical research, Professor Leingang has consistently displayed his commitment to pedagogy and professional development. He currently serves as Vice Chair for Undergraduate Affairs as well as Faculty Director of the GSTEM program.

In response to this honor, Professor Leingang released the following statement: "The word "asymptote" in math describes a line that a curve approaches but never meets. In my nearly 25 years of teaching, I have spent close to 5,000 hours in the classroom alone, and twice that preparing and reflecting. But I feel that perfect teaching is an asymptote that can never be reached. The best one can do is commit everything to the craft, and aim for continuous growth."
