Anasse Bari Receives NYU's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Faculty Award
February 6, 2025
Anasse Bari, Clinical Associate Professor of Computer Science, has received New York University's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Faculty Award. This award recognizes outstanding faculty who exemplify the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s scholarship, life, and justice work and who promote the principles and ethos of Dr. King’s extensive global contributions in their research, teaching, leadership, and/or community-building efforts.
Faculty Awards are sponsored by the Office of the Provost in partnership with the NYU Division of Student Affairs. Professor Bari was nominated by Sana Sajjad, a current undergraduate student, who spoke about Professor Bari’s mentorship at the February 4th awards ceremony. “Professor Bari is a visionary,” she told the crowd, “a leader who is determined to help his students succeed. His work, contribution, and impact reflect Dr. King’s legacy and propagate it.”
2025 marks the 20th annual MLK Week at NYU. Professor Bari touched on this year’s theme of Living the Legacy in his acceptance speech: “Dr. Martin Luther King once said, ‘Although not everyone can be famous, everyone can be great, since greatness is determined by service.’ Every day in my classroom, I encourage my students to use the skills they have learned at New York University to serve the world.” Professor Bari also took a moment to reflect on his late mother, Rachida Bargach, and her lasting advice, “Continue this mission—not just to teach computer science, but to prepare the next generation of thinkers with values of equity, inclusion, kindness, and family.”
Congratulations to Professor Bari and all of this year's deserving honorees!
