Abstract:

"Stories from a Mathematician in Court"

Jonathan Mattingly, Professor of Mathematics at Duke University, will speak about his research into quantifying gerrymandering and understanding its effect on a region’s political landscape. This work has led him to testify in a number of court cases, including Common Cause v. Rucho before the U.S. Supreme Court. Professor Mattingly has received a Sloan Fellowship and PECASE CAREER Award, he is currently a Simons Fellow in Mathematics.
