Sanae Lotfi recognized as one of the 2023 Rising Stars in Machine Learning
We are proud to share that Sanae Lotfi, a PhD student at CDS, has been recognized as one of the 2023 Rising Stars in Machine Learning! This prestigious honor comes from the University of Maryland Center for Machine Learning, highlighting her as a beacon of innovation and brilliance in the field. Sanae's groundbreaking research on understanding, quantifying, and predicting generalization in deep learning is making significant strides in the realm of AI and machine learning. Her work is not just academically exemplary but also pivotal in shaping the future of deep learning methodologies. This academic year's Rising Stars in Machine Learning Workshop, an exclusive, invitation-only event, was held at the Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Engineering on November 14–15, 2023. Sanae showcased her research there alongside other notable young scientists in the field. Sanae’s work focuses on the foundations of deep learning. Her goal is to understand and quantify the generalization properties of foundation models, using notions that relate to generalization such as the marginal likelihood, PAC-Bayes bounds and model compression. Inspired by findings about generalization, Sanae aims to build more robust and reliable machine learning models. At CDS, she is advised by Professor Andrew Gordon Wilson. Sanae's academic excellence has also been recognized with awards like the ICML Outstanding Paper Award and supported by esteemed fellowships, including the Microsoft Research PhD Fellowship, the DeepMind Fellowship, and the Meta AI Mentorship Program. Join us in congratulating Sanae Lotfi for her achievement and contribution to the world of data science and artificial intelligence!
