In this talk, I’ll provide an overview of how The New York Times approaches developing and deploying machine learning, highlighting the work of our data science team. Over the past decade, we’ve built a team that leverages machine learning to drive strategic initiatives, including recommendations, personalization, and algorithmically-driven paywalls. Our approach emphasizes close collaboration with diverse teams, including product, marketing, advertising, and editorial partners. I’ll also discuss how our industry-academia relationship has led to mutually beneficial collaborations that inform and improve research and teaching.
