Linguistic Compositionality and Incremental Processing

In this talk, I will present recent projects focusing on two key properties of natural language. First, I will discuss the problem of incremental processing, presenting modeling and empirical work on the nature of the algorithms that underlie the human sentence processor and discuss information theoretic tools that quantify processing difficulty. Second, I will discuss recent work on developing related information theoretic tools for defining and measuring the degree of compositionality in a system.
