Denis Zorin to serve as Dean of the Courant Institute School

University President Linda Mills announced yesterday that Denis Zorin, Silver Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, will serve as Dean of the Courant Institute School. A long-time member of our faculty, Professor Zorin served as Chair of Computer Science for more than ten years. Since 2020, he has served as director of NYU’s Artificial Intelligence Initiative and has been leading its growth to support faculty and researchers across the University.

Professor Zorin's research spans the domains of geometric modeling, geometry processing and scientific computing, and his contributions have helped to shape those fields. He is a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery, and has received the ACM Gordon Bell Prize and the ACM Computer Graphics Achievement Award, among numerous other distinictions. 

"Denis has been a tireless bridge-builder to industry, forging doctoral co-mentorship programs with partners like Google and Meta, expanding opportunities for NYU students, and strengthening the University’s standing at the frontier of computing," President Mills wrote in her message to the community. "He has earned the respect not only of his peers here at NYU, but also across the private and public sectors."
