Announcing the Courant Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics
May 29, 2026
New York University’s Courant Institute School of Mathematics, Computing, and Data Science has announced its new flagship journal the Courant Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics (CPAM) will begin publication in early 2027. Our current journal Communications on Pure and Applied Mathematics will cease publication at the end of this year.
Founded by Richard Courant in 1949, Communications on Pure and Applied Mathematics has consistently ranked among the world’s premier mathematics journals—highlighting the most impactful research produced by our faculty and peers. The Courant Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics will continue this legacy of excellence. The editorial board will remain the same, with Silver Professor of Mathematics Sylvia Serfaty continuing in her role as Editor-in-Chief. CPAM’s scopes and aims will remain unchanged.
The launch of the Courant Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics corresponds with the creation of our new school, announced by NYU this past November. We are committed to preserving and expanding upon Courant’s scholarly leadership in this next chapter of our history.
CPAM will be owned solely Courant and will be produced and published by Mathematical Science Publishers (MSP), a nonprofit house specializing in mathematics and led by scholars with three decades of experience. The journal will be available from MSP either as a single-journal subscription or through their subscription packages in the 2027 season. To inquire about subscribing to the Courant Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics, you can visit the journal's webpage or email contact@msp.org. To submit a paper for consideration, you can visit the journal's submission page.
