NYU Courant to Serve as Exam Center for the 2026 USA Mathematical Olympiad

March 18, 2026

The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) has announce that NYU Courant will serve as one of 31 institutions across the United States and Canada to host the 2026 USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO) and USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad (USAJMO). This marks the first time students will gather at official regional sites to participate in this national competition.

Approximately 600 top-scoring students from the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) are invited to participate. The USAMO and USAJMO will take place March 21-22, 2026. Each competition consists of six proof-based problems completed over two days for a total of nine hours.

Although these olympiads remain individual competitions, this format gives students the chance to meet and connect with peers who share a strong interest in mathematics. It also allows participants to experience a setting similar to the one used at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) for those who ultimately qualify for that event.
