Fang-Hua Lin Elected to the National Academy of Sciences

The National Academy of Sciences has announced the election of 120 new members in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Courant's Fang-Hua Lin, Silver Professor of Mathematics, was named among the distiguished honorees.
The NAS is a private, non-profit society of distinguished scholars. Established by an Act of Congress, signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, the NAS is charged with providing independent, objective advice to the nation on matters related to science and technology. Scientists are elected by their peers to membership in the NAS for outstanding contributions to research.
Professor Lin's research interests are in nonlinear partial differential equations, geometric measure theory and geometric & applied analysis. He began his academic career as a Courant Instructor in 1985, before being named Professor of Mathematics in 1989 and Silver Professor in 2002. Professor Lin is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Mathematical Society, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
