Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences

The Courant Institute is located in Greenwich Village in lower Manhattan. The Mathematics Department and part of the Computer Science Department are at Warren Weaver Hall on the southwest corner of West 4th Street and Mercer Street. The rest of the Computer Science Department and the Center for Data Science are at 60 Fifth Avenue .

By Plane

The three major airports serving the New York metropolitan area are La Guardia Airport (LGA), Kennedy Airport (JFK), and Newark Airport (EWR).

Airport shuttle buses are available from each airport to Port Authority Bus Terminal or Grand Central Station.

Cabs and car services are also available and are convenient if you have a lot of luggage. Plan on spending about $30 on taxi fare if traveling from La Guardia or $50 from Newark or JFK. Detailed fare information is available on the nyc.gov taxi fare information page..

AirTrain service is available at JFK and Newark Airports. From JFK you can take the AirTrain JFK to Howard Beach or Jamaica Station, from where you can catch the A or E train, respectively, to West 4th Street-Washington Square Station. From Newark you can take the AirTrain Newark to Newark Penn Station, from where you can catch the PATH train to 9th Street.

By Train

Metro North into Grand Central Station

Take the Lexington Avenue subway (No. 6 train) downtown to Astor Place Station. Go west on Astor Place to Broadway. Walk south on Broadway to West 4th Street. Walk one block west on West 4th Street to Mercer Street.

Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and Amtrak into Pennsylvania Station

Take the 8th avenue subway (A and E trains) downtown to West 4th Street-Washington Square Station. Walk east on West 4th Street until you reach Mercer Street.

PATH Trains from New Jersey

To 9th Street Station (6th Avenue and 9th Street), then walk south to West 4th Street and east on West 4th until you reach Mercer Street.

By Bus

Bus carriers such as Greyhound Lines and New Jersey Transit offer service to the Port Authority Bus Terminal located on 8th Avenue between 40th Street and 42nd Street. See the website for a full list of routes. From the Port Authority Bus Terminal, you can transfer to the A, C, or E subway lines for service to West 4th Street Station near NYU.

By Subway

The Courant Institute is accessible from the subway stations listed below. Be aware that some routes change on late nights and weekends. For additional information, including service changes and scheduled closures, please see the MTA website. For detailed travel directions, see Google Maps. Visitors to the Courant institute may be interested in 7-Day or 30-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCards offered by the MTA.
