GLACIER

All international students and scholars are required to report to the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) each year - even if they did not work during the prior year. You will not necessarily need to pay taxes; but reporting your presence in the US is a legal requirement. Here is more information on GLACIER.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

I am an international student. How do I report my employment as a Research Assistant on GLACIER?
Answer: For international students using the GLACIER tax system, payment is considered wages.
I am an international student. How often should I report my employment as a Research Assistant on GLACIER?
Answer: For international students, GLACIER needs to be completed with NYU each time you work as a Research Assistant. Note: this does not mean you need a new username and password for GLACIER. This means you should log in to the GLACIER system with your existing username and password to fill out the GLACIER forms again. You will need a new username and password for GLACIER if you have never created a GLACIER account before.
I am an international student. I have never completed GLACIER at NYU before. When and where do I get set up with GLACIER?
Answer: You should be set up with GLACIER when you obtain the NYU Wasserman On Campus Student Employee Application form at Wasserman. You will need the NYU Wasserman On Campus Student Employee Application form before you begin work as a Research Assistant at Courant.
I am an international student. Who should I contact with my questions about taxes or GLACIER?
Answer: Please note questions regarding GLACIER or taxes should be directed to NYU.GLACIER@nyu.edu. . You can find more information on how to book an advising appointment via zoom or in person here.
I am not an international student. Do I need to complete GLACIER?
Answer: No. If you are not a foreign/international student, GLACIER most likely does not apply to you.
