Abstract: I will present experiments in which we force a statistically axisymmetric and homogenous ensemble of internal gravity waves with the aim of reaching the regime of Wave Turbulence in a stratified fluid. I will first show that finite size effects affect dramatically the turbulent flow with the emergence of energetically dominant eigenmodes of the experimental fluid domain, which phenomenon has already been evidenced in several past experiments. This feature and the associated discretization in frequencies and wavenumbers prevent relevant comparison with the theoretical framework of Weak Turbulence which is built under the assumption of infinite domain.
I will then explain how we succeeded in preventing the emergence of the fluid domain eigenmodes which allowed us to make a step further toward a genuine internal gravity wave turbulence in the lab. I will present preliminary results in this direction.
