Postdoctoral Associate at New York University

Open Date: November 1st, 2021
Location: New York University

Description: The Mathematics Department at the Courant institute has several open postdoctoral positions as part of the Simons Collaboration on Wave Turbulence. From the collaboration website,  “This collaboration is the first attempt for a systematic coordinated study of Wave Turbulence Theory in a large-scale project, bringing together state-of-the-art skills in the areas of mathematics and physics, with theoretical, experimental, and numerical expertise. It is a joint effort of several groups of researchers who are ready to collectively collaborate, question all assumptions and approximations, and coordinate the progress on an interdisciplinary set of problems”.

These positions are a full time two years position that can be extended to three with a possibility of teaching.  The postdoctoral associate will engage in mathematical research under the supervision of one of the Principal Investigators, O. Bühler, P. Germain, J. Shatah, and E. Vanden-Eijnden.  The postdocs should have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will be expected to contribute to the Collaboration effort at Courant as well in related meetings and workshops.

Required: Ph.D. in Mathematics or Physics with a research background in one or more of the following areas: nonlinear evolution equations (dispersive, kinetic, computational, deterministic or stochastic), fluid dynamics (theoretical or computational aspects), statistical mechanics, or turbulence theory.  Candidates must have the ability to travel and present research results.
