Summer School on Wave Turbulence and Beyond

When the number of degrees of freedom of an interacting wave system is very large, a deterministic description is not feasible anymore and a statistical one is required. Wave Turbulence can be defined as the out-of-equilibrium statistical mechanics of random dispersive and nonlinear waves. An appropriate statistical averaging procedure on the deterministic equations of motion is the key ingredient for developing the theory. The Wave Turbulence has been applied to a variety of fields, from quantum to astrophysical scales.
Starting from 2019, an international collaboration on Wave Turbulence has been financially supported by the Simons Foundation with the aim of addressing fundamental questions on the theory and on its applicability. The collaboration on Wave Turbulence brings together diverse experts as physicists, mathematicians and computer scientists in order to further develop the foundations of the theory. In the last 3 years, many progresses have been made. The school is intended for Ph.D. students, Post Docs and more advanced researchers who want to have a privileged window on the foundations and on recent developments of the Wave Turbulence theoryand its applications.
The school is supported by the Simons Foundation.
The school will start on July18 at 8:30 am and participants are expected to arrive in Torino on July 17. Lectures will end on July 21 in the afternoon (the program will soon be available here).
The deadline for application is April 15.
