Free probability, free entropy and applications to von Neumann algebras
Basic results in the theory of free probability and free entropy
will be explained (e.g., free central limit theorem, limit laws of random
matrices, etc.). Applications of these results to the solutions of some
longstanding open questions in operator algebras will be discussed.
