RTG Undergraduate Summer Program, July 20-August 13, 2009
This four-week program is for undergraduates at Columbia, CUNY, and NYU to explore and investigate open research problems in algebraic and analytic number theory. The program will take place at the CUNY Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Ave., New York, NY. The students will work in small groups, and regularly interact with the faculty supervisors. The first week of the program will be lectures introducing potential research projects and their backgrounds, and the rest of the program will be devoted to solving some open problems. This program will be a great preparation for graduate studies in number theory, both for learning more advanced mathematics and for building a stronger graduate school application. Four students will be accepted from each university, and each participant will receive a stipend of $1,000. All students with some exposure to rigorous mathematics are welcome to apply, but one semester of complex analysis is recommended for students interested in analytic number theory projects, while one semester of abstract algebra is recommended for students interested in algebraic number theory projects. The application must include
- a cover letter (with your name and email, your college, and your recommender's name and email),
- a transcript,
- one letter of reference.
Applications should be sent to
