I have been awarded an IBM PhD Fellowship
for the 2010-2011 academic year.
My current research area is in Bioinformatics, specifically: DNA sequence assembly and Base-Calling
from next generation sequencing reads.
In particular I have focused my research on applying techniques and algorithms from Combinatorial Optimization
(such as branch-and-bound or beam search global search methods) to accurately solve hard problems in Genomics.
Moreover, since sequence assembly accuracy is particularly important in many applications (e.g., genome-wide association studies,
detecting new polymorphisms, finding rare and de novo mutations), I focus to develop assembly metrics and validation
tools to comparatively assess assembly quality and accuracy.
My research interests also include: Protein Structure Prediction,
Multi-objective optimization, Evolutionary Computation and Multi-Agent Systems.
