As many users noticed, we experienced disruptions yesterday afternoon with access to home directories from CIMS systems. While we were able to more or less stabilize the file server, residual problems continued throughout the afternoon and into the evening, growing progressively worse.
We suspect communications problems between two servers may have been the source of the disruptions. Ultimately we've been forced to reboot the two servers late tonight after one of the servers hung, leading to outages of departmental webservers, and disruptions in access to mail, software, and home directories.
We hope to have systems back to full functionality between 2 and 3 am. We apologize for the inconvenience.
