In this talk I will review a rigorous supersymmetric approach to the study of the density of states for random band matrices indexed by lattices sites of a 3 dimensional box.  Such band matrices interpolate naturally between GE ensembles and random Schrödinger operators.  This is joint work done with M. Disertori and H. Pinson.
